Career Coach versus Life Coach

A career coach is a professional that is utilized to help a person realize and possible re-adjust their career paths. As the economic climate an the job market keep changing, career coaching is being called upon more then ever. Typically a career coach will start by taking the time to analyze what a client has accomplished so far in their education and in their job experiences. A career coach will also take some time to get to know their client so they can understand the personality and temperament of the client. By focusing on different attributes of a client, the career coach will then use their experience to help formulate a plan of action that will help the client either change careers, or move up the career ladder of their current position by developing a solid career development plan.

In comparison a life coach is a bit different although there are some areas that are very similar to that of a career coach. Usually a career coach is more specific in the focus of the client in regards to just career matters. A life coach will assist in areas that are more vast. For example a life coach will help a client realize additional aspects of their experiences to date that have nothing to do with just career. A life coach can be instrumental in helping a client work on ways to better their overall communication skills in relationships as well as in the workforce. A life coach may help a client form better parenting skills, or better money management skills. A life coach can even be instrumental in helping a client deal with grief or procrastination issues.

Ideally a career coach that has both of these areas of expertise would be the best choice for a person who needs additional career and professional guidance. There are companies like RDG Careers in Toronto that have on staff professionals that can address both areas simultaneously. It follows that a well rounded career attitude goes hand and hand with positive achievements in other areas of life.
